3 Most Polluted Areas In Bangalore

Coverage of environmental liabilities can make the difference between a successful or failed real estate investment. Though Delhi is making headlines for increased level of pollution, Bangalore is no less.

It is one of the prime cities in terms of environmental degradation due to high pollution levels. Increased levels of immigration due to growing opportunities in IT/ITeS sector has bloated the population of the city causing more vehicle ridership and thus pollution levels.

As per Numbeo (user contributed database of perceptions), the city while have low score for quality of air, water and recreational spaces, the city have recorded high levels of pollution (with a pollution index above 80) supported by WHO data indicating very high air pollution levels .Because of these pollution factor real estate market is also going down in mid of city .Instead people start investing in property for sale in Bangalore far from central Bangalore.

Some of the most polluted micro-markets in the city to be noticed are mentioned below.

Silk Board Junction

Silk Board Junction acts as a gateway to the IT corridors in the East (Marathalli, Kadubeesanahalli and Bellandur) along with the Southern corridor (Hosur Road) towards Electronic City. Immense traffic driving in both the directions create a traffic chaos and congestion resulting in heavy pollution.

Whitefield

Apart from the contribution of employee ridership to the IT/ITeS companies, there is a huge footprint of industrial establishments in Whitefield region such as Graphite India Ltd which have been a major source of graphite soot into the atmosphere increasing pollution levels. Not just the employees, even daily commuters, residents and traders in the vicinity of GIL are suffering.

Victoria Road

Under the National Ambient Air Quality Monitoring Programme taken up by KSPCB, DTDC House area on Victoria Road has overshot the permissible limit by 170 per cent. The Central Silk Board area on Hosur Road RSPM (Respirable Suspended Particulate Matter) levels are higher than the permissible level by 215 per cent.

All the aforementioned areas are blooming residential real estate markets in the city. Several youngsters working in and around these areas have bought an apartment in the vicinity while there are denizens who are planning to buy. Thus, it is high time that the government wakes up from its deep slumber and do something about protecting the environment.
